Before becoming a student, it is important to consider how you will support yourself financially. Depending on your individual circumstances, you may be eligible for money to support your studies. Student Services staff can provide guidance and information about the financial support available.
The Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is a grant that comes in weekly amounts of £10, £20 or £30, depending on your circumstances.
To qualify:
EMA is only paid if you have attended 100% of your timetabled classes. Students must sign up to an EMA Learning Agreement with the College to qualify to receive payment. The money is paid directly into your bank account. Receiving EMA does not affect any other household benefits.Further information.
The Assembly Learning Grant for Further Education Scheme – ALG (FE) – is available to students aged 19 or over on 1 September 2010. If you are studying a full-time programme of 500 hours or more, you could receive up to £1,500 to use towards day-to-day studying costs. Learners studying between 275 and 499 hours could receive up to £750 per year. The amount awarded depends on your annual household income. Three payments are made to students during the year, provided you have attended a minimum average of 85% of timetabled classes. Further information.
This fund may be awarded alongside financial assistance outlined above depending on family/household income. Students who find that they are not eligible for the above forms of assistance may also be considered.
