The Foundation Degrees in Construction and in Civil Engineering have been designed to focus on education and training for those who are employed within the industry and will provide a sound basis for a career in the professional or managerial side of Construction. There is also the opportunity to ‘top-up’ to a full BSc (Hons) degree in Commercial Management after completing the Foundation Degree.
Career Opportunities
A wide range of career opportunities include architect, bricklayer, carpenter & joiner, civil & structural engineer, construction manager, electrician, environmental consultant, facilities & estate manager, gas installation & maintenance engineer, painter & decorator, plasterer, plumber, surveyor and town & country planner.
The College has excellent links with Construction Skills, the Sector Skills Council for the industry, as well as local employers, local authorities and housing associations. It holds the highest grade awarded by Government Inspectors for Construction Teaching & Learning and Work-based provision.
Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors
Coleg Llandrillo Cymru has established strong links with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. It is the first college in Wales and one of a small number in the UK to achieve ‘Affiliated College’ status with one of the sector’s leading awarding bodies.
Our Students
Many of our students go on to have successful careers in Construction following their courses here. Craig Duck, a current City and Guilds Level 2 student has gained employment as a direct result of his studies at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru. Craig entered the College on the Building Craft Foundation Course and has since successfully gained an apprenticeship with a heating firm in Colwyn Bay.

Coleg Llandrillo Cymru students frequently win awards. Calum Tait, a Construction student from Rhyl, who won Welsh Apprentice of the Year, said “I came to Coleg Llandrillo to further advance myself in my chosen career and to gain a full understanding of what being a plumber entails. The College is friendly and well equipped with facilities and has helped me significantly with my plans to become a fully qualified gas and plumbing engineer.”
