Coleg Llandrillo Cymru’s Hospitality & Catering students came away with over 50 awards during the recent Welsh International Culinary Championships, which were staged at the College’s Rhos-on-Sea Campus for the fifth year in succession.
The medals and certificates were awarded in a number of competitions including hot and cold live, open, and cake decorating classes. Competitions ranged from mashed potato piping through Japanese sushi to dessert flambé. The students received their awards in front of packed crowds at ceremonies throughout the three days.
Designed to celebrate the nation's culinary skills and food, the championships were packed with exciting competitions, including the prestigious Battle for the Dragon contest between the national culinary teams from Wales, Scotland and Ireland (which was won by the Scotland team).
Brian Hansen, Lecturer in Culinary Arts at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru said: “The College prides itself in its reputation for excellence in vocational training and it was especially pleasing to see the outstanding results of our students in the competitions. We were proud to work in partnership with the Welsh Culinary Association, utilising our state-of-the-art training facilities for this prestigious culinary event.”
The students were up against strong competition from other students from all over the UK, including representatives from Loughborough College, Liverpool Community College and North Warwickshire & Hinkley College.
