Representatives from the construction industry were at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru’s Rhos-on-Sea Campus recently to present awards to students who had excelled in their chosen fields.
The Construction Learner Awards ceremony, which took place in the College’s new £8.2m Marine and Built Environment Centre (MBEC), celebrated the best student from each of the technical areas. One student from each technical area – Marine, Plumbing, Wood Occupations, Decorative Occupations, Electrical Installation, Trowel Occupations and Plastering - was named as Student of the Year, after being nominated by their Tutors.
They were judged on several criteria: attendance, application, attention to detail and quality of work. The awards’ main sponsor was Richard Williams Builders Merchants (Llandudno Junction); other sponsors included Toolbank, Bahco, Harris and Brian Hyde Ltd. All sponsors were given a guided tour of the Marine & Built Environment Centre (MBEC).
Mike Jervis, Head of Programme for Construction at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru said: “The students have produced work of an exceptional standard and I congratulate all the winners. I would also like to thank the local construction industry for their continuing support.”
The winners, who received a vast array of industry standard tools, were: Michael Shanks from Holyhead - Decorative Occupations; Damon Luke Canning-Price from Prestatyn - Electrical Installation; Charles Nicholls from Colwyn Bay – Marine; Nick Roberts from Rhos-on-Sea – Plumbing; David Jones from Denbigh - Trowel Occupations; Zach Williams from Llanrwst – Plastering and Lucy Roberts from Glan Conwy - Wood Occupations.
