Institute of Health & Social Care

Professional training and development for the Health & Care sector.

The new £3.6 million state-of-the-art Institute of Health & Social Care is an innovative Coleg Llandrillo Cymru development which will address the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and vocational Higher Education needs of those working in the North Wales Health & Care Sector.

Training & Development Excellence

As one of the leading colleges in the country and the largest college in North Wales, Coleg Llandrillo Cymru offers an unparalleled range and quality of training.

Based at the College’s Rhos-on-Sea Campus, the Institute of Health & Social Care will provide professional training and updating programmes throughout North Wales for staff working in both the public and private sectors, as well as for those wishing to train or retrain for a career in the Health & Care Sector. Consultation with industry and employers will ensure that all programmes are relevant, fit for purpose and meet the needs of local organisations.

Training will be appropriate for a wide range of staff, including carers, care assistants, health care assistants, support workers, clerical workers, porters, domestic workers and voluntary staff. Raising skill levels, knowledge and understanding will benefit organisations as a whole and also patients, clients and other staff. Enabling staff to study for accredited qualifications through bite-sized chunks of learning will also lead to enhanced staff work skills, increased job satisfaction and lower staff turnover.

Wide Range of Courses

From September 2009, the College’s CPD programme will cover areas such as Nutrition, Infection Control, Communication & Counselling Skills, Medical Terminology, Mental Health Care, Health Promotion and Palliative Care. Education and training programmes will also be offered at other Coleg Llandrillo Cymru campuses or within health and care settings to meet local needs.

Outstanding Facilities and Qualified Staff

The new Institute will be completed by September 2010 and will include a ward area for teaching and training as well as a purpose-built counselling training suite, a lecture theatre, IT facilities and high specification classrooms.

Training will be undertaken by a qualified team of staff with tutors having clinical backgrounds e.g. in physiotherapy and nursing, along with extensive experience of teaching and training within the NHS and local authorities.
