Each governing body has a Chair and Vice Chair, elected by its members, and a Clerk to the Governors appointed by the governing body, who ensures that minutes of meetings are taken, prepares the papers and advises the Chair and the governing body on the proper procedures for governance.
It is rarely possible for governing bodies to get through all the work they need to at meetings of the full board. As a matter of practicality they need to delegate much of their work to committees. These committees may be advisory and decision making, as determined by the board. Governing bodies may also delegate their work to the chair of the governing body or Principal of the College.
