Coleg Llandrillo Graduation Ceremony 2010

Llandrillo Cymru's 17th Annual Graduation Ceremony was held this week at Venue Cymru, Llandudno in front of a full house of students, their families and friends.

The Graduation Ceremony celebrated the outstanding achievements of over 250 of the College’s Degree, Foundation Degree, HND, HNC and Postgraduate students. Over half of all full degree students gained a 2:1or above

It was a joint celebration for mother and son, Christina and Christopher Billcliff from Bodelwyddan, who both graduated on the same day on the same course! Personal Assistant to one of Coleg Llandrillo Cymru’s Assistant Principals, Christina accepted her Foundation Degree Management & Business with her son by her side. Christina said: “I was a little apprehensive and unsure how it was going to work with both of us being on the same course. This unusual situation was accepted by our fellow students and our tutors and if anything brought a little humour into the lectures. It turned out to be an advantage as there was a little competition between us, which raised our grades."

“We both enjoyed the course, although working full-time it was hard finding time to complete the work, but the Business School staff were always there to support and help us. The course has taught us valuable skills which will be useful for our careers."

Mine Karadal from Rhos-on-Sea graduated with a 2:1 in BA Honours Management of Travel & Tourism. Mine began her College studies on the Introductory Diploma in Travel & Tourism (Level 1) as her English was not sufficiently advanced to follow a higher level course. After completing the Level 2 course with ‘flying colours’, Mine was accepted on to the degree course in 2007, achieving high grades in all of her assignments.

Turkish-born Mine has recently become a British citizen and has also achieved her ambition to become a Cabin Crew member with Turkish Airlines, and begins training straight after her graduation.

Austrian student, Philipp Baumgartner from Llandudno, will be staying in Wales after graduating with a BA in Honours (Top Up) Hotel & Hospitality Management, as his British partner, who lives in Switzerland, has chosen Wales to study for the next two years. Philipp had completed the first two years of the course in Austria, but the college he was attending didn’t offer the final year. So, after a recommendation from an Austrian friend who had studied at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru previously, Philipp moved to Wales

Philipp said: “It has definitely improved my standard of English and my language skills in general. I have met lots of people from different cultures and the standard of education has been excellent.”
