Who the course is for

This course is aimed at those people working within the Health and Social Care setting, within a senior practitioner role or supervisory capacity.

What you will study

Mandatory units:
- Develop health and safety and risk management policies procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
- Lead practice that support positive outcomes for child and young person development

Optional context units:
- Principles of supporting individuals with a learning disability regarding sexuality and sexual health
- Understand the process and experience of dementia

Optional Competency units:
- Independent Advocacy with Children and Young People
- Recognise indications of substance misuse and referindividuals to specialists
- Facilitate coaching and mentoring in health and social care or children and young people’s settings

Delivery

The City and Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Leadership In Health and Sociak Care Services (Children and Young People – Advanced Practice) will be delivered predominantly in the work place on a 1:1 basis with an appointed assessor, who is occupationally competent within the sector. It may be possible for some elements of the course to be taught in group session within the college environment or within the work setting.

Assessment

The units within the City and Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Health and Social Care Services (Children and Young People – Advanced Practice) will be assessed via Direct Observation. However, all units will have a requirement to provide knowledge evidence, this requires a written explanation of work practice, this can be obtained via reflective accounts and written questioning.

Duration

The Level 5 Diploma In Leadership for Health and Social Care Services should take between 12 – 15 months to complete. .

This course is available throughout the year.

Entry Requirements

You need to be working within the residential childcare / young person’s sector, in a senior position that is unsupervised.

- Foundation Degree in Social Care Management (Adults)
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in health and Social Care CYP -Management Pathway. (Subject to management responsibilities within current job role).
