Work Starts on Multimillion Pound Sixth Form Centre
25 November 2009
Work has started on the new, purpose-built £3.5m Rhyl Sixth Centre in the grounds of the Coleg Llandrillo Rhyl Campus.
Wynne Construction, based in Bodelwyddan, has been awarded the contract after the tendering process. Facilities will include two state-of-the-art Science laboratories, a multi-faith room, Art & Design studios plus IT and Mac suites, complying with the College’s green and sustainable ethos. There will also be an extensive refurbishment of the Rhyl Campus.
Simon J. Moreton from Wynne Construction said: “Wynne Construction is delighted to have been awarded the contract to construct the new Rhyl Sixth facility. This new facility further demonstrates the efforts and commitment being invested into Rhyl’s young community and, as a local company, we are proud to play a part in the area’s redevelopment.”
2010 will see pupils moving across to the custom built, £3.5million Rhyl Sixth on Coleg Llandrillo Cymru’s Rhyl Campus. Pupils will benefit from an extensive A Level and vocational curriculum giving them the widest choice of subjects in Denbighshire and facilities which are on a par with the very best in Wales.
Chris Ruane MP said: “This near £4 million investment is most welcome in a key sector in Rhyl and it comes on top of another recent £4 million investment into the College to improve local vocational skills. I hope these huge investments will have an enormous impact on the academic and vocational skill levels of young people in my constituency.”
Vale of Clwyd Assembly Member Ann Jones said: “I am pleased to see the start of the Rhyl Sixth which will offer all sixth form students the opportunity to learn in 21st century facilities. It is important that these students are able to access the widest possible opportunities.”
