NVQ 2 Gas Installation & Maintenance

What you will study

If you are working in the gas industry and want to gain a qualification or if you are interested in becoming a domestic gas installation & maintenance engineer but have no previous experience, this course would be ideal.

The course involves installing and maintaining central heating, fires, cookers and water heaters.

Subjects covered on the course include:
- Health & safety in the workplace
- Installation of domestic gas appliances
- Servicing and maintenance of domestic gas appliances
- Basic fault finding techniques
- Wet and dry central heating systems
- Hot and cold plumbing supplies
- Copper, mild steel and plastic tube installation skills

Who the course is for

The course is sutiable if you're looking to enter the profession of gas, plumbing and heating installation.

How you will study

You will learn through a mix of classroom theory and workshop practical. Approximately 65% of course time is spent on practical activities. The centre has a variety of modern gas appliances for students to work on.

How you will be assessed

On-going assessments throughout the duration of the course, some assessments will be conducted on-site with a work experience provider. The majority of assessments are practical based, however, there is an element of written examinations.

Qualification Title

City & Guilds Domestic Natural Gas Installation & Maintenance at NVQ Level 2

Course Length

One year full-time. Half the course is done through work experience with an employer.

Entry Requirements

For entry to the couse you will need to pass an aptitude test and interview. You will also need to demonstrate an aptitude for practical work and an ability to communicate well.

Priority will be given to those successful candidates who have arranged their own work placement for the duration of the course. Your Options After the Course

After the course you could progress onto further study at NVQ Level 3.

Currently there is a high demand for qualified Gas Installation and Maintenance Engineers both locally and nationally.

The vast majority of our past students have progressed to work within the Gas Industry and some into successful self-employment.
