Entry Requirements

The standard entry requirement of a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above applies. It is not essential for students to have a studied the subject at GCSE, but for those that have a grade C is highly desirable.

AS Level Course Detail

BS1 – The Business Framework (includes marketing, production and types of business) BS2 – Business Functions (includes accounting, finance and human resources)

A2 Level Course Detail

BS3 – Business Decision-Making (includes objectives and measures of performance) BS4 – Business Strategy and Practice (includes forecasting, costing and ommunication)

AS Assessment & Examination Detail

BS1 – Exam (1 hour 15 mins) in January of Year 12 - 20% BS2 – Exam (1 hour 45 mins) in June of Year 12 - 30%

A2 Assessment & Examination Detail

BS3 – Exam (2 hours) in January of Year 13 - 25% BS4 – Exam (2 hours) in June of Year 13 - 25%

There is no coursework in the WJEC A Level Business Studies scheme.

Additional Information

Assuming you attain a grade in the AS Business Studies course then you can upgrade to the A2 course in Year 13.

Business Studies combines well with several subjects such as Geography, IT, Languages, Media Studies and Sociology. Students are encouraged to take an interest in business news and developments both locally and nationally. The course provides a suitable foundation for students who wish to study Accountancy, Business Finance, Human Resources, Management or Marketing in Higher Education.
